I am a mother, artist, and multimedia storyteller from Milwaukee, WI. As a woman of color making art, creating work is one of the few areas in life where I am able to freely name, embrace, and honor my own identity. Using photographs, mixed media, textiles and storytelling, I hope to contribute to the creation of long-term social equality and a truly free society. I am proud of my diverse background, as well as the gifts and traits passed down to me though traditional and non-traditional avenues. Walking a blurred line between sacred and profane, beauty and utilitarianism, warrior and lover —I’ve come to know it as balancing my Malcolm out with a little bit of Martin. I create work that conveys and celebrates the complex nature of human life and relationships while further exploring my own personal spiritual journey and commitment to community. I stand in solidarity as and with the oppressed people of the world and hope to use my work as a respectful way of sharing valuable stories and lessons brought to the table.

My love for art started at a young age, making bold line drawings during class. All I ever wanted to do was make art. Seeing Grandpa Duffy create my favorite character out of the book Frog and Toad really amazed me. My style and passion took off from there with strong influences from music, graffiti, skateboarding and snowboarding. From drawing characters in cartoons to learning how to draw from books, my love grew stronger. I graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a focus on painting and drawing from UW Milwaukee's Peck School of the Arts. The images I create are a product of my own cultivated aesthetic values. To me, art is an endless visual adventure of discovery
Opening Reception February 9th
On Display February 8th Through March 9th
While contrasting old and new materials, I make use of my observations and experience in the urban landscape, memories and nostalgia to challenge the perception of both meaning and history along with the physical transformation of the materials. Within each painting, installation and sculpture I want the viewer to be engaged and experience the work as both observer and participant. The materiality of the work plays an important part in this relationship, bringing to mind a familiarity with the urban environment memories, nostalgia and individual experiences within these topics.
