A family affair: Canvas
A night of creatives
This past Thursday, artist collective and DIY space, Canvas held their first friends & family mixer. It was a collection of people in Chicago that have not only helped to build its thriving art community but are champions of it. They support each-other, inspire each-other, challenge each-other and moreover push each-other in every way. Push each other into the arms of greatness. Not only showing up to support events but screaming their names from the rooftops. Being the free labor that's needed to finish the final 5 paintings in 24 hours, assisting on a 12 hour photo shoot and putting in overnight hours to make sure that the art instillation gets done in time. Canvas has a way of doing that, a way of bringing people together and showing them their potential. Showing them there are other people in the art community looking for the same thing we all are. Acceptance and a place to feel comfortable. Not only all those things but its a space where the people behind it, force you to be better. They force your to step outside of your comfort zone in order to better yourself. Whether it be hosting an event, to being behind the scenes. I know personally, every time I go to help with or support an event, I leave feeling like I can be better. Which is a feeling that we all crave, whether you know it or not. Its the single best DIY space in Chicago, with the most passionate people behind it.
So, Id like to say, Thank you. Thank you Canvas and the people behind it for being the arms of support that so many of us creatives need.
