After Magazine is a submission based artist magazine with a focus on music, art, fashion, lifestyle and social justice. We provide a platform for emerging artists, locally and nationwide, and ask them to share how their environment has helped shape their vision. We inspire open collaboration and accept any medium we can, from our online presence to the physical issue. People from all over are more than welcome from people as local as Chicago to Amsterdam. If you have any questions we recommend that you email us. We want any and everyone to feel comfortable submitting their work. This isn't "My" magazine, its "Ours."
The first issue of After came together right after a really hard time in my life. I decided to take a trip to California and met some of the most talented, inspiring and flat incredible people I had ever met. While around them I created some the best work to date. While there, the idea to submit my work became more real. I began reaching out to publications all over the world just get see what would happen. I got some great responses but not from the people I wanted and after being frustrated about not even getting a response. I just said, forget it, I can do it myself. So, before leaving California the idea to create my own inclusive and community driven magazine that would inspire people collaborate with each other. I gave myself 3 months to pull all the content together and asked for submission from everyone I could think of.
This is what we came up with
With issue two, I really wanted to showcase some very important and influential people around me. There was no way I could do that without recognizing women. By far the most incredible thing that's ever happened to me has been a direct result of the strong women in my life, that have propped me up, believed in me and have inspired me with their strength. So, the only logical move was to dedicate this issue to Strong Women.
Issue three was a collaboration between After and G.R.E.A.T.
A poetry collective dedicated to giving voice to the resistance in the form of powerful poems.
All the content colleceted for the issue was directly related to our past election and how people felt afterwards.
